This Just In!!!
There are major congratulations in order for Dusty and Stephanie. They are the proud parents to the newest member of the Wormy Dog family, Davyn Reece Kyle. The lil man is 6 lbs 5 ounces and 18 1/2 inchs long. Dusty says everything went great and both Davyn and Stephanie are doing wonderful. It is so awesome to finally get to post this, Dusty is the manager of the Wormy Dog and we have all been waiting patiently for the news. We love you guys and are so excited to see him.
Big Mac and Quarter Pounder...
We finished out the weekend with a bang. Johnny Cooper started the party with his full band and put on a really good set. I always think its funny to watch people's reactions (who haven't seen Johnny before) when they see him start belting out lyrics for the first time. The typical reaction is "Wow he's good, who is he?" "How old is he?" "HE'S HOW OLD?" and then the ladies all go "AWWWW". He's 17 and the guy can rock the place. I knew we were in for a good night when MMB started thier set with "Used To Be". Its always been a favorite, an all around red dirt favorite at that, and to have Mac singing it with the one and only Tom Skinner was just plain sweet. You wrote one helluva song Mr. Skinner and we thank you. Mac rocked on all night, played everything we could have thought of, and even threw in some Dylan and that "obscure Neil Young tune" for a couple to mention. I still think Wild Child is a kick a** rock 'n roll song. Even if you arent moving your feet to the music, it has the ability to get you motivated, start bobbing your head, tapping your toes, and by the time he's hitting the strings to the chorus you are jumping up and down and rockin out with nothing holding you back. Mike McClure was rockin, we like his work as a producer, but we LOVE to see him rock and roll. Don't believe me ask Ragen, Jason, or Kevmo they'll back me up. Speaking of Kevmo, he used to be the house "kongo/bongo" drum player for the acoustic shows. What ever happened to that? Those were good times. I even remember one time he picked up a guitar and played "used to be" by himself. Ironically I just remembered that. I know I mention all the time that there were alot of hott women, but if you weren't there don't ask me, ask all the other guys that were there and they will tell you that once again the place was full of them. I did get to see some funny things Sat night as well. I saw three people spill drinks on themselves due to the fact that they were dancing and holding thier drinks at the same time, that is, until they put one and one together. I saw a lil jockey try and wrestle the manager, no comments on who won and who smokes too many cigarettes. The Jack Daniels girls couldnt get any nicer, especially thier leader. I saw the bottom of a beer bottle popped off like a can of pringles and a bic pen "fly". Two very entertaining lil tricks that, even sober, I am still impressed with. Princess J even graced us with her presence. Even though it was only for a very little while, I still feel priviledged to have seen her, even if she has become a fun-hater and her sightings are few and short-lived. I also wouldn't yawn around Big Will, that "rude sasquatch" will slap you upside the head so fast with a "wake up buddy" you won't know what hit you. Gotta love your friends. I will mention that Grady Cross and family were hanging out and about, and Dan, it's about time you were allowed to come to the bar, forget that "ladies night" crap next time, i'll drink with you any night. All in all it was another great night at the Wormy Dog, thanks again to Mike McClure and band, Johnny Cooper and crew, and all the wonderful bartenders that we can't thank enough. I hope to see all of you very soon and a reminder that Bo Phillips is on Weds, Wade is on Friday and Bleu is on Sat.
I Think I'll Just Stay Here And Drink...
Well Jarrod Birmingham put on a damn fine show last night. If you havent heard of him check this guy out, he has some good originals and knows how to entertain a party with the right amount of Waylon, George Jones, Chris LeDoux, Cash, etc.. The PBR is in town and the cowgirls were looking great all over town. Ross Coleman and several others were in for the Wormy Dog party. They were saying that they can't come to OKC and not go to the Wormy Dog, especially if Jarrod Birmingham is playing. Jarrod used to be a professional bull rider, I think even a Texas state champ or something and everyone supports him and loves to party at the Dog. Thank you to all the lovely ladies that graced the dancefloor and made our jaws drop. Everyone says that they will be back again tonight to rock out with Mike McClure. Mac is sure to bring the crowd and I know plenty of people that have been waiting all week for this show, myself included and it's been quite a week already, why not roll it over another night. I'll be drinking again so the pictures will defenitely be interesting. Maybe we can get Mac to play "an obscure Neil Young tune to get the party started". It might be a shot night, find me I'll buy and take your picture. In the words of Roger Clyne, "SALUD!!!"
Randy Rogers, Railings, and Friday Hangovers
Well first things first, yes we all woke up with hangovers for Friday, some earlier than others, but we all survived the Thursday night madness of The Randy Rogers Band. RRB rocked the socks off of a Thurs night crowd and it was tons of fun. There are certain things that you can judge that you had a good night. One of the most obvious would be the crowd at the end of the night. There are always people that get drunk and do stupid things, some "fun" stupid things, and some just plain stupid things. Take last night for example, I didn't witness this, but a guy (who obviously had been drinking), who is said to have weighed like 200 lbs, tried to slide down the railing at the entrance stairs that is the size of a broomstick. A BROOMSTICK. Does it take tequila or jager for this kind of brilliant thinking? If anyone knows please let me know, I'll drink some of that tonight, but dont expect me to be drunk enough to try and slide myself down something I know won't hold. I guess it was quite a sight to see, as you can see from the pics it got fixed today, I wish I would have a pic of the guy. Tonight is Jarrod Birmingham and there are already some hott women here. I'd advise to fight the rain and drag your tail down. Also, when Randy Rogers tells you "I know all the words to that/those songs" he is full of crap. I also think that Brady is one of the best fiddlers around, he is either rockin with the music or his pants are too long and he has to keep moving. Rock on with the fiddle man. As Always CHEERS!
T-ville, Stoney, No Justice, lots of drinks...
If you have noticed when I post blogs, I like to post some pics to go along with them. Apparently there is a software/comp problem that was keeping me from playing around with things, anyway it took longer than expected but here are a few things that I must mention before I forget. Last Weds was Travis Linville. Enough said. T-ville put on one hell of a show and I still think he is one of the best singer/songwriter/musicians I have ever seen in person. If you've never seen him, I will just say that his are the cd's that other bands listen to when they are driving in the car. I know this for a fact. Later in the night Stoney Larue and the fellas stopped in for a drink and to see Travis finish the show and a little bit off hell was raised. I don't remember why the camera was brought out (upon request I might add), but I did end up documenting a "crushed red peppers" eating contest. I think Stoney owes The Big Silk a pizza next time, no Big Silk tells me he defenitely owes him a pizza. I also think they managed to kidnap Ragen for thier after hours festivities. I also learned that "Nancy" was named after Coop's mother, small world and I love the Red Dirt Rangers, how cool I had no idea. I was back on Friday for No Justice and Jon Wolfe. George Strait played at the Ford center and the Wormy Dog was more than packed. I want to officially challenge Jon Wolfe and his boys to stay for more than a couple hours next time they roll through town and drink with us. We know from past experiences that they can belly up, but they better bring the responsible Trey with them to drive them back to Texas. No Justice played a hell of a show, Congrats to Steve and Kim Rice I had no Idea that they had had a baby since the last time I saw them. I'm not really sure why I dont remember things accurately (I think the Drunk part of Drunk Cameraman has to do with it), but I was going to quote Steve Rice on the blog but the only part of the sentence I remember was "sh*t" or "sh*t man..." or something to that effect and the rest fell on drunk ears. Go Figure. Honeybrowne was the next night and there were some hott and I mean HOTT women out on the town. I think they like the way Fred sings or something. Our girls from Ponca City even drove down to party with us. Always a good time and always good music from them. Monday we all know was when we were suppossed to have Pat Green back and inside at that, but for whatever reason he didnt get back to playing from his injury until his next show. Oh well, maybe next time around. Johnny Cooper played acoustic last night and will be back Sat with full band to open for Mac if you missed him. I compliment the guy on his song choices. Never hurts to hear some Petty, Lang, or Black Crowes, and Brandon Jenkins tunes never get old. I would suggest leaving the comedy off the stage, bad jokes man bad jokes. J/K. Johnny even brought in the ladies, happy birthday to the b-day girl, and tell your friends to come back, we didnt get a chance to get acquainted. As a word of advice, don't wear huge hoop earrings around Big Silk. He will tell you a story or two about 'Jersey. Well I just realized what time it is and I needed to be at the dog about 5 mins ago. Randy Rogers on a Thursday leads to HANGOVERS FOR EVERYONE on Friday morning, but I think everyone can handle clocking in and "myspacing" with a hangover. I know that's all you 9-5'ers do anyway. Until later CHEERS
upcoming shows
As much as I like to get on here and poke fun, the following message is just a public service announcement regarding upcoming shows. Please check back later for more outrageous personal attacks, and lies about my friends... For those of you who just jump on here to see whose playing this weekend, and of course read the blog, I'd invite you to take a look at the calendar to see what we have in store for you!!!! To begin with, everyone take note of the last minute Randy Rogers Band show coming up on January 26th. Spread the word! Also, we've had several requests for the South Austin Jug Band, and we at the ole' Wormy Dog aim to please! Mark your calendars for Friday, February 24th, as the SAJB will be onstage at the Dog in front of one of my personal favs, Reckless Kelly! Chuck has been doing a great job of loading the calendar with some of the best Texas and Red Dirt talent currently on the scene, and there is more coming. Now, if any of you caught Kevin Fowler at the Dog last weekend, then you know this music is growing more popular everyday here in OKC (thanks in large part to Ty Austin and our good friends over at 93.3 KKNG). It was a capacity crowd by 11PM, and that left alot of people standing outside in the cold, or simply missing the show altogether. For you insiders who drop by the site to see what's shakin', I'd offer this little tidbit of advice: Buy your tickets online in advance of the show! With some of what we have in store for you, I can guarantee you will need to have advance tickets if you want to be sure you get in. What else is in store? Well, for one, Jack's back! Yep, come April, Jack Ingram will once again grace the Wormy Dog stage, and we're expecting a very nice reception. Other shows on the horizon include: Mike McClure, Roger Creager, The Great Divide, Stoney LaRue, Cory Morrow, Charlie Robison, Ray Scott, and Shooter Jennings, just to name a few. Oh yeah, and Cooder Graw, another one of my favorites!Anyway, mark your calendars appropriately, and buy your tickets early! Ok, guess we'll be seeing all of you out tonight for No Justice and John Wolfe! Come on out and buy me a beer (or a shot of tequila from you, Jerry Payne)!
Amazing Acoustic Night
Very seldom do I get the true acoustic "take you away" kinda vibe, I am huge fan of acoustic Wednesdays and hardly miss a single one, and last night was pure musical enjoyment. I guess Wade Bowen and West 84 have never done this acoustic full band thing before but you could have fooled me, it was awesome. I may build up a thing or two when telling people stories but I have been telling everyone that if the opportunity arises this is not a show to miss. The 75 of us there were very lucky to be there. The show was very raw, intimate, crowd friendly, and loved every minute of it. Wade played everything from his new tunes (check out his CD it rocks) to some old covers like the Eagles and Ryan Adams. It was awesome, ask Nasty, ask Ragen, Bob, J, Craig, Steph, we were all singing along. We send our thoughts and prayers to Mikey and his family and hope to see him when they come back, but in the mean time I think Shelby sold more merch per person last night, looks like the CD is speaking for itself everyone was buying it. Powell even showed off his singer/songwriter skills and took it to the house (for lack of a better word". I would stop typing and just leave it as the show was great, but there are few people I can talk friendly "crap" to and Wade and the guys happen to be one of them. WE WANT OUR BOWLING BALL BACK YOU CHEATING THIEVING MUSICIANS, the taxi bills are in the mail to your management and you have NO IDEA what the going rate for an upscale taxi service in OKC is these days, and it doesn't matter I just turned the meter off a minute ago anyway. Safe travels guys see you soon. Tonight is house party, tomorrow is Tucker Road, and Sat. is Kevin Fowler, get tied on, it'll be a barstool rodeo night, especially with everything going on downtown. See you tom, stop me and ask me to take your pic and Ill put it on the web and we'll do a shot. Until then... Oh I almost forgot, if you know the "Big Silk" ask him about his latest experience. Something about court, inmates laughing, him peeing, maybe not that order but ask him just the same the story will make you laugh like crazy, its definitely one of a kind and one that you will use as conversation "I knew a guy once that..."
Steamboat...Music Fest...Enough said.
After vaguely recovering from The Hangover Ball, the Wormy Dog packed our bags and headed to Steamboat for Musicfest. Now I'm sure everyone has been on roadtrips and ski trips before, but for me this was one of the best trips I have ever been on. We had no idea what to expect being our first year to go to Steamboat. Let me say that Dickson Productions do an amazing job with this. My hat is off to everyone involved. If you havent heard about it go to www.themusicfest.com, but basically Oklahoma and Texas along with like 20 bands (that play from 3 in the afternoon til 1 in the morning) take over Steamboat for a week and show Colorado what good music and good people are all about. It was a blast and the Wormy Dog was representing in full force. As you can see from the pictures we set up the party smack dab in the middle of everything. The snow was "sick dude, especially in the bowls and chutes man". The parties, well, the parties umm, the parties lets see... I dont really remember the parties except that we didnt stop and there were lots of them. Thank you to everyone that invited us (Cody & Shannon, Toby) as well as joined us (Scott "the best cook in the world", Lisa, WD Bob, It was sooo much fun. A couple of shout outs to our neighbors that were from Tyler, Justin and his crew from Corpus Christie, The Kinzie Family (County Commissioners sure can sing), Erin "the hott nanny", E J, Enzo (leave the dog shock collar at home next time), "country singer" Bobby Montgomery, "Dick", Shelly, lil Schwartz nice try hiding the Cuervo, Jessie & Heather, Ft Worth Jenny, our boys from Southern Thread (congrats on the clothing line and its incredible take off - www.sothread.com) Gretchen, Hott biker chick Erin, Mark and Millie, and EVERY Band that we listened to, danced to, drank to, and went skiing with. I especially want to thank Mickey and The Motor Cars for the shout out during the outdoor show and for being so damn cool. The mystery video from '05 will debut on the website very shortly. Once again I cannot stress enough if you like Red Dirt Music get online with Dickson Productions and book a trip for next year, the Wormy Dog will be there and theres no telling how much fun we will have. Personal favorite quotes from the trip "tell him to go take a picture or something - Nathan Coit", "tell him to go peddle some shirts" - Drunk Cameraman, "I can't comfortable" - Guy, "I am a golden god" - Ronnye, "You are a dumbass" - random responder. "I think my ACL is broke he he " - Jaz A seperate Thank you is also in order for my favorite mom away from home Mrs. Farmer, for letting us stay overnight at your house and cooking us such wonderful food. I think I will try and join your family some day. Thank you again and again.
Hangover Ball '06
It's been brought to my attention that I need to get off my a$$ and blog, after a very good kick in the butt here I am. Where do I begin, I guess I will say that I am starting with Hangover Ball 06. If you werent there, I have nothin to say but I am sorry. You missed an awesome show. I personally was worried that it is hard to top last years show, but I was wrong. Cody, Randy, Wade, Stoney, and Jason were right on thier game and sounding amazing. I want to thank them for everything. My friends that didnt have tickets, tell me that it was worth waiting in line for 3 hrs to see this show. I agree. I want to personally thank Jason Boland for playing "Roadside Prayer", I had almost forgotten about that tune and it made my night. I know everyone had a good time seeing all of Ragweed, The Stragglers, RRB, West 84, and Stoneys new crew walking around drinking with the rest of us while watching the show. Coit ignore Mr. Farmer next time we are drinking he's just a third wheel. As for others, I would like give shout outs to TABLE ZERO (I am envious) who was there in full effect, also Ronnye Canada, Cameron, McCoy, Kinzie and anyone else that made me take a shot or drink with them, nothing like back to back hangovers. The picture Im posting on the blog here almost sums up all the energy that was in the Dog that night. If you look closely everyone is singing or playing music and behind them stands Randy Ragsdale looking like he is going in for a kiss with Wade Bowen, must be a figment of my imagination, I know they had to be singing too right Rags? Wade? JK All in all Hangover Ball '06 was the way to start the year off right nothing like great music, great atmosphere, lots of alcohol. Nothing better than getting over one hangover only to start another. Maybe next year I wont stop drinking after new years and carry it through to New Years Day. Cheers.
So much to talk about...............
Wow. 2006. Where do I begin....? The last two weeks have been a blur, what with Steamboat (If you haven't been, go. More on that later), Hangover Ball (Fans asking for $100 ticket prices. If that's not saying something, then what does?), and what else was it? Oh yes, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Speaking of which, I'd like to take a few minutes to briefly address some of what is in the guestbook. First of all, this is all my opinion, and not that of anyone else associated with the Wormy Dog in any form or fashion. Second of all, I really don't give a damn about what anyone has to say in the guestbook, as we all know that is the same two people posting under various names to make it look like there are a bunch of people taking time away from their jobs to post..... Two people, and of course Vinny, so technically three. But I digress..... Since there is at least one person concerned that the Dog hasn't issued some official opinion regarding Texas Jack and NYE, I will take it upon myself to issue an unofficial opinion for the Dog, However, as stated in the previous sentence, it isn't official. First, the facts: Yes, Texas Jack was told to wrap up roughly 30 minutes before they were to wrap up originally (it was a short show to begin with, and they weren't booked to play as long as they play on a regular night). It was my understanding Texas Jack was told by two different people that they were to play cover songs if they wanted to play on New Years. This was supposedly done at the time the show was booked, and again before they went on stage. Texas Jack says this wasn't mentioned beyond being told to "throw in a few covers" right before they went on stage, otherwise they would have declined to play the New Years Eve show. Now that we have the facts down, let's address the "rumor that they got cut off for not playing cover tunes". That is factually true in that it is a "rumor", but that is absolutely not the reason they were asked to shut off early (I define "cut off" as turning off the microphones and cutting power to the stage. Something that definately didn't happen. They were told to play either 3 or 4 more songs to wrap it up). The one and only reason I asked them to quit early was because of the steady stream of people that began leaving by the second song, and didn't let up until the dj music came back on. In fact, over two hundred people left in the span of 30 to 45 minutes (I'm not guessing, we were tracking our outs in case the Fire Marshal paid us a visit), and once we went over two hundred, it was obvious we had to do something to stop people from leaving. Oh yeah, up to the point Texas Jack came on stage only 40 people had left since the doors had opened. Here are a few observations I hope those of you who think I somehow wronged Texas Jack will take into consideration. First of all, New Years Eve is different than any other night of the year. People are out because it is the biggest party night of the year, and they want to party. As a bar, we have to entertain, or we go broke. For those of you who have some vision that we should "just be about the music", we are, but it costs a hell of a lot of money to "just be about the music" in Bricktown, so we have to entertain first and foremost. Believe me, if the people who left had stuck around while TJ was playing, we wouldn't have had them shut down early, and they could have played polka music for all I care, but when your crowd is leaving you do what you have to do(by the way, that was almost half the people who were there. If it hadn't been NYE, we might not have filled the place back up). I have never once asked TJ to play any kind of format except that night. To the best of my knowledge, neither has anyone else at the Dog, but again, NYE is a different night than most. Some of you seem to think that we should sacrifice to no end to bring Red Dirt and Texas music to the people, but if you can't pay your rent does your Landlord just blow it off? Neither does ours. If you want a great live music venue like the Dog to stay in existance, we have to pay our bills just like everyone else, including the guys who play music for a living. Now that I have stood on my soap box for a few, allow me to stand on it just a bit longer. Here are some of the comments from the guestbook I most want to respond to (good judgement tells me to leave well enough alone, but those of you who know me, know good judgement isn't one of my best attributes). pwc Sunday, January 8, 2006 11:02 PM Amen to that brother Buf. I am quiet suprised that the WD won't comment on this, seeing as how they have been personally attacked. Oh, well I guess that goes to show you that when a band does special stuff for your club(i.e. play for free at times and play when they need a last minute band) that means nothing to them. They would rather say Ah, screw it and not defend or support the people that support them. If they don't support the bands why should we support them? Ok, pwc, are you satisfied? Now the Wormy Dog has unofficially responded by not responding, but allowing me to respond on their site (Did you catch that, pwc? If not, I'll wait while you read it a couple more times). As for a band doing special stuff for us, do you have any idea how many bands would not only play for free, but KILL to play on our stage? Where did TJ play at in OKC before we booked them? Do you think they are doing us a favor by filling in at the last minute? We are giving them an opportunity unlike any other they would have in OKC, every time they plug in their amps. Concerned Saturday, January 7, 2006 10:18 AM What is the WD's stance on the NYE thing? Why haven't we had an intervention from you?Dear Concerned in OKC, The guestbook is there so people like yourself can vent your frustrations, praise your musical heroes, and promote your favorite bands. As long as things stay semi within reason, we don't feel like we need to be editing, intervening, or telling everyone to play nice (unless you're the guy who keeps posting spam, and if you are, stop it! It pisses me off!). Beyond that, we encourage everyone to post to their little heart's content. I hope this helps you with your issue. Sincerely yours, Dear Abbey Ragan Friday, January 6, 2006 11:10 AM Man I guess I missed some stuff while hangin' in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Its been two weeks without live music for me. Yeah Badwater tomorrow night for sure. Ragan, Steamboat is in the Rocky Mountains. Next time catch a ride with "Wormy Dog" Bob. Jack Blue Wednesday, January 4, 2006 08:58 AM Vinny just to let you know I support all Tx and RD music. Dave, do you think everyone knew all of Ragweed's or even TGD's song when they first started? How the hell will more people like their music if they don't get to hear it, Tx Jack is awesome and they are not a cover band Just out of curiosity, Jack, when did you first see CCR or TGD in concert? I remember going to Ragweed shows when 10 people showed up, and believe me, there was ALOT of cover music played (Does anyone else remember the cover of Van Halen's Ice Cream Man at the WD Concert Hall in Stillwater?). The first Steve Earle, Robert Earle Keen, and Jerry Jeff Walker songs I ever heard were covered by the Divide, not to mention their covers of Jimmy Buffet, Green Day, and Everclear, and it's a big part of what turned me on to the Divide. You can't just force-feed your music to people and expect them to like it because it's an "original", and if you don't grab their attention in the first 15 minutes they are listening to you, chances are you've missed your oportunity. Climbing the ladder in the music business is a process that doesn't happen overnight, and it doesn't happen just because you write and play your own music. The band has to grow on people, and eventually their music will too. You are making alot of progress with your anger management issues, and I think in one or two more sessions we'll have it pretty well under control. Now, my fee for the couch is $150 per hour, with a one hour minimum, so please make your check payable to Dr. Feelgood, or I can simply add it on to your bar tab. Which would you prefer? Ashly Wednesday, January 4, 2006 06:54 PM There's a big divide between people who come to the wormy dog b/c it's a club in Bricktown and the people who come because it's the WORMY DOG and for what that name stands for in OK/TX music. So it's not surprising the people who are there for the DJ couldn't wait for the band to be done. My hangup is I can go to City Walk and hear the same stuff they play at the "house parties." The Wormy Dog is unique in its name and its history and I'd like to see it stay that way. It's sad that it's not profitable when it comes to the bottom line though. So I guess that's what it's about. The business. I think we'd all like it to be about the music, the bands, and the creative side of things, but somebody's gotta pay the bills. And the drunk girls grinding to 50 Cent on the dance floor are doing that, I guess. But I miss the old days when you knew you were gonna see raw talent and hear somebody's heart. And I love the boys from TJ. And the day they become a cover band is the day I quit going to their shows.Ashly, I think you are a sweetheart. You are one of the biggest supporters of live music in general, and the Wormy Dog specifically. However, I have to disagree with you on a point or two. First of all, as I said earlier, NYE is the one night that we have to focus ourselves a bit differently. I hate that it has to be that way, but that's the way it has to be on that particular night. As for hearing what we play at a house party down at City Walk, I seriously doubt you hear Reckless Kelly or the Bellamy Brothers, but I don't go so I guess I don't know. As far as paying the bills go, I believe I've addressed that as well. Now, about the "old days", haven't you been in on a Wednesday night? Have you not heard the likes of not only Cody Canada, Mike McClure, and Stoney LaRue acoustic, but Bo Phillips, Johnny Cooper, and Buddy Huffman as well? Do you think we are selling out when we continue to put people up on that stage for an average of 30 people on a Wednesday night? We lose our ass to bring music to OKC from time to time, and I think perhaps we can tolerate a little female to female grinding (perhaps some brief nudity as well-- just kidding ABLE Commission!) and a house party here and there to keep that kind of stuff coming back week in and week out. Raw Talent has not left the Wormy Dog, it just has to take a little breather once in awhile and watch a few girls dance on the bar! Jack Blue Thursday, January 5, 2006 04:08 PM basically, Vinny is a follower or a bitch and just does whatever his leaders or masters tell him to Damn Jack! And here I thought we'd made so much progress! That will be another $150...... Ashly Thursday, January 5, 2006 06:57 PM Hell yeah! Roger Clyne! Wouldn't miss it! And I didn't mean to say there's never any good music there anymore. It's just that I get tired of walking in to rap and thinking what the hell are we listening to now... it's just weird to see how things change. I still like it, but if they're wanting my boys to become a cover band, I'm out. That's all. Yes, you're going to hear some rap from time to time (some nights more than others, depending on the crowd), but you're also going to hear Texas Jack, Badwater, Kevin Fowler, Charlie Robison, Jason Boland, and Ragweed (and speaking of rap, you might even see Cowboy Troy and Big and Rich, and I also hear that Kid Rock drops by once in awhile). Does that somehow take away from all the rest of the great bands who grace the WD stage? I don't think so. As far as things changing, do you remember what the original Dog was like? Now, I'm talking pre-Wooley and Dennis days when the Great One himself, Mr. Robert Charles Thomson Jr. (founder of the famous venue) was spinning bootie shaking music (yes Virginia, they had rap back then) and doing the belly whip from the rafters? You see, Ashly, we have actually returned to the old days, but we brought the best part of the newer old days with us. Live music. Chuck did very little of that because back then Ragweed hadn't yet even sold out the old Dog, and it wasn't the draw it is today. What we are trying to do is to keep bringing the best live Texas and Red Dirt music we can to as many people as we can pack in on any given night, and if we have to play some rap to create a party, then by golly turn down the lights, put the girls up on the bar, and crank Nelly up until poor Steve thinks I'm going to blow his speakers, but we are going to throw a party! That is what the Wormy Dog is and has always been about: One HELL of a good time! And no, we don't want Texas Jack to become a cover band (unless they want to play on NYE next year). Tim Friday, January 6, 2006 09:02 AM Ive been to the wormy dog a few times and really enjoyed it. two times I saw a band called Texas Jack, they were great. It appears that today the general society prefers pop boom, boom music. It has taken over the entire country. That is why I love the Wormy Dog because I thought they supported live music not pop, which made the bar 1 of a kind. To my suprise I heard that it wasn't true, that it's all about money. I think you need to figure out what this bar is about, LIVE MUSIC or simple minded butt rub music for people to shake their asses. Well Tim, unfortunately for you, I'm getting tired and cranky, and I just used up my last drop of "nice" on Ashly. Tim, you are a dumbass. You say yourself you've been to the bar a few times, saw some live music, and really enjoyed it, but because you "heard" it wasn't true (even though you have first hand experiences to discount that nasty, little rumor), you've now decided it's all about the money. I think you need to figure out that every business has to make money. Do you think any of your favorite bands play for free? Are they "just about the money" because they get paid? How do you think they can afford to eat at Taco Bell and buy guitar strings? As for what the Wormy Dog supports, why don't you take a look at our calendar. We are THE supporter of this music in OKC, and we will continue to support live music as long as we can afford to keep our doors open. Tell you what Tim, why don't you just pull out your self-righteous checkbook at the first of every month and cut us a check for the cost of our rent to show us just how big a supporter of live music you are! Are you a big enough supporter to do that Mr. Big Supporter? Mr. Big Athletic Supporter? Well? Huh? Are ya???.......... Ahem.... ah.... er.... um...... ah, just allow me to apologize for losing my cool there. Perhaps it was the tequila talking...... Or maybe Tim just pissed me off a little bit. Either way, Tim, how about you and I bury the hatchet? Come on back to the Dog the next time we're having a band play that you want to see, and I'll let you buy me a couple of beers. Alrighty, we'll see you then. ashly Friday, January 6, 2006 10:23 AM dude what bar were you in Saturday night? the place was packed and everybody was up at the front partyin. i don't know what all this "the crowd wasn't into it" bs is all about. it took me 15 minutes to get to the bathroom to pee because of all the people! Well lookey there! Found one more drop of nice! Ashly, guess it's just your lucky day! Um, yes Ashly, the bar was packed. It was New Years Eve. All of the bars were packed that night..... I don't know about all this "crowd wasn't into it" stuff either, except for those who were leaving. Sorry it took so long to get to the bathroom, and even more sorry that you ladies have to deal with a bathroom that's in the shape that one is in. I'd like to say we have plans to fix it up, but it's already so much nicer than what you had at the Dog in Stillwater, Chuck won't let us..... Wow! Amazing what a person can accomplish in 3 hours! I'd love to go on about some of the other stuff, but I'll save that for another night. Who knows, maybe we'll get a post from the Drunk Cameraman or Big Silk to cover some of that, since I'm sure my rantings have put most of you to sleep already. Sorry for any misspelled words or poor grammer, but I'm not proofing this thing, so please be a darling and deal with it. Please post to the guestbook, as we love to know what you're thinking, and we'll see everyone out this weekend for the big Kevin Fowler show!!! Don't forget Wade and West 84 on Wednesday and Tucker Road on Friday! If you didn't go to Steamboat, GO NEXT YEAR! You too, Ragan.
