Full Throttle
Vinny had to go check these guys out, being that they are from his hometown and he'd heard alot of good things about them. Vinny missed their opening slot for Ragweed down in SA over the Thanksgiving holiday, so he made sure to catch them this time. Vinny's glad he did. These kids rocked it out.... South Texas style. It's been awhile since Vinny's heard SRV influenced guitar work ala the Chris Duarte Group...and these dudes did Stevie proud. WOW!! Along with their own kick ass originals, they tore it up covering Hendrix, SRV and Rage Against The Machine. The bass player was highly energetic throughout the sets and was a show to watch himself. Later on in the show they swapped bass/leads and he friggin burned it up too. These kids are damn good. When's the last time you've seen a drum solo reminiscent of the ones from the 80's? This show even had that!! One of the great things about going to the Wormy Dog to see all these bands is Vinny never knows what he's gonna get sometimes. Vinny's seen some memorable "first timer" shows over the past couple years and this was definitely one of them. Randy Rogers Band, The Gourds, South Austin Jug Band, Macon Greyson.... these guys are right up there in the same category. Full Throttle brings it hard, fast, and in your face, the way it should be done.......South Texas style!!! Normally, Vinny's scanning the crowd to get a guage of how they are feeling about the band, but this time Vinny didn't care. He was focused on the musicianship onstage. Full Throttle kicked OKC's ass. Too bad ol' Kid Rock missed out!!!
Honeybrowne/Charlie Shafter Band
Sorry it took awhile to review this show. Vinny's kids are on Spring Break, so it's almost impossible to find any time on the computer right now. But anyways, to make this short and sweet as possible.... Honeybrowne just didn't do anything for Vinny. Snoozefest is a good word to describe it. If it wasn't for the guy who thought he was Tim McGraw working his magic on the dance floor and the WNBA fans "jamming" to the cover song of the Greg Kihn Band's major hit "They Just Don't Write Em Like That Anymore", Vinny may have fell asleep and fell over the railing and hurt some one below. Thankfully, it wasn't a lost nite altogether because the Charlie Shafter Band once again put on a nice set. Vinny digs this band. They have a smoothe sound to them that just clicks with Vinny. Make sure to check them out again later this month. Anyways, that's about it on this show. Pretty dull, but hey.... Vinny still got a good buzz on and as always there was good entertainment to be seen on the floor when Eminem and 50 get it started. Have a nice Ragweed Day.
Macon Greyson
Sorry it took awhile for Vinny to review the Macon Greyson show. He's been a little under the weather as of late. Musta caught something at the Deli in Norman. Those Big Red cups are a good deal, but... Vinny's not so sure his cup was in the hot water and bubbles long enough..... anywho, after two nites in a row of the Jug Band, Vinny went out for the third nite in a row this past Saturday nite to check out Macon Greyson. Needless to say, Vinny was dragging ass from a 2 nite hangover and the bug he caught Thursday nite. Vinny and crew arrived at the Shark table around 9pm and slowly nursed a couple buckets with Brian and Butch. Buddy Huffman arrived around 10 and came over and introduced himself to the Shark. Buddy is one cool dude right there and one of the better frontmen in the business. Never a dull moment listening to him go off on any subject he might come up with off the top of his head or while he's doing his thing belting out the lyrics to his songs.. He tells it like it is and the Shark respects that. So, the show kicks off around 11 pm or so and just like the last time Vinny saw MG, they rocked it out, especially when they got into "Save Us All", which was right about the time Big Silk came by with some Jager Bombs. Suddenly the bug seemed to go away for awhile and it was "on" for the rest of the nite and the "Blah, Blah, Blah" song was especially tight and got the fins moving. The crowd was a bit smaller than the nite before, but they still got into it pretty good. Vinny's pretty sure Buddy had to have noticed those 3 hotties up in front of the stage on the left side. They began the nite at the North end of the Shark table and then moved their way on to the dance floor. Carmen Electra Lite (who was chosen as Vinny's fan of the nite) and the other two. Damn!! That's one sure thing about the Wormy Dog.... always some great talent in attendance. Needless to say, the 3 fine ladies at the South end of the Shark table are hot themselves.... Yep, it was a damn fine time once again. If you haven't seen Macon Greyson yet, do yourself a favor. They are one of the better bands that graces the carpet at 311 E. Sheridan. Badger, it was nice meeting you too bro. Vinny will see ya'll once again when you roll thru this fine town affectionately known as "Ciudad de Oklahoma". Have a nice Ragweed Day.
