Randy Rogers Band/Low Water Crossing
Again, Vinny apologizes for being a little late for this review. What more does Vinny need to say about the Randy Rogers Band other than if it wasn't for them and Ragweed, Vinny probably wouldn't know or care to know about all the other fine bands that make their way thru the Wormy Dog...however, that being said, Vinny's glad he does know about the other bands AND the WD, because to be honest with you, OKC would be a pretty dull place to be as far as live music is concerned. It doesn't get much better than RRB at the WD in OKC, folks. After dinner at Hooters, The Sharks arrived early (7pm) before the doors opened because the last two Saturday nite shows Vinny went to (Jason Boland and Shooter) were standing room only and let Vinny tell you.. it's very difficult to see the band when you're upstairs on the far end of the rail next to the video screen. Wise move on the Sharks' part as they were fortunate to snag the big table downstairs. Bon, Jerri and Brian joined the Sharks as did Debbie and her husband and Daina, Brooke, and their cousin Denise. Randy Rogers stopped by to say hello and tell everyone that he had a major hangover from the nite before in Foss. Something about 2 big bottles of Jager. Anyways, he went to the bus to shower up and catch a little rest....Knowing it was gonna be about a 2 to 3 hour wait before Low Water Crossing got onstage, Vinny bought a deck of cards at Hooters to pass the time by. Vinny's gonna blame the ass kicking he took from Denise in Texas Holdem on the cards themselves. Have you ever seen a deck of Hooters cards??? Kinda distracting, to say the least. Anyways, time flew by and before Vinny knew it, LWC hit the stage (sorry WD staff for leaving a pile of about 100 pennies on the table). This was Vinny's first time seeing LWC and let him say this: They weren't half bad. They sang cover songs the entire set, but they did them right. Mandolins make all the difference sometimes. Fins up to LWC's set. Props to the Gin and Juice cover. Sounded every bit as good as when the Gourds do it. Fine show and Vinny won't hesitate to go check them out again. After about 15 minutes or so, it was time for the RRB to play. Once again, it doesn't get much better than them in Vinny's opinion. There's alot of good Red Dirt artists out there who have one or two good songs on an album, but when it comes to these guys... ALL the songs are good. Period. They played pretty much everything in their library and more of the new stuff. As usual, Brady worked over the crowd with his mastery of the fiddle and Vinny can't say this enough, but Randy's got the best voice in the business. Anyways, after the show and at closing time, Nancy came by and told Vinny and friends to hang out back by the bus. Thanks for the tour guys. Glad to see the RRB riding in style. And Randy.....thanks for the dumbell demonstration. You're looking buff bro!!! Well, that's that about this show. Can't wait till they roll thru OKC again. Vinny's off to Vegas this weekend, so to all of you who are going to the WD, have a cold beer or 12 for Vinny. Laters!! Have a nice Ragweed Day. P.S. It was good talking to Grady and Mrs. Cross again. Have a good one!!
Jason Boland/Shooter Jennings
Sorry it's been awhile since Vinny's last review. Got kinda lazy on this. Well, that and Vinny's been to only two shows in the past month. Let Vinny backtrack for a moment and comment on the Jason Boland/Badwater show a few weeks ago. Jason sounded great. Crowd was very much in to it and the floor was jam packed with people. Word to the wise... get your tix online or you're gonna be waiting out on the street for shows like this....Vinny got there around 8 and almost all the seats were already taken. Vinny found himself a spot on the left side next to the screen upstairs. From what Vinny could hear from there, he was impressed with. As stated before, Jason was on it that nite. Moving forward to this past Saturday... Vinny took in opening nite of the Yard Dawgz. So, by the time he got to the Wormy at around 10:30, he was already feeling no pain. Thankfully, Mrs. Shark and Jerri and Brian got there (kinda early) and found some seats and a table, (This time on the right side of the video screen). Wow, another full house bursting with energy when Shooter hit the stage. Vinny was highly impressed by what he remembers of the show (damn Jager)... Shooter sounded great, his band was very good as well. Good to see some familiar faces in the crowd too. Vinny had to make his way down by Table Zero for a little bit to get a better listen to Shooter. Of course, "Fourth of July" was the crowd favorite. All in all, from what Vinny can remember (damn Jager).. it was a great show. This Saturday is Vinny's favorite Texas band, the Randy Rogers Band. Get your butt down here if you've never seen him. Get your butt down here anyways. It's gonna be a great show and a great party. Vinny guarantees it.
